Custom Rafting Axe

Rafting axes were used by loggers on drives to hammer spikes, wedges and log dogs into logs floating down the river. They are characterized by a thick heavy poll and a thin bit. Usually these axes are 3+ pounds in weight. We toned that down a little bit. Ours has a 1.5# head made from U.S. 1045 carbon steel which is hung on a 22" hickory handle. A unique pattern to use around your wood stove or fire pit.
