Forester's Friend Double Bit Cruiser - Limited Edition!
What is the Forester's Friend you ask? It is a limited edition, handmade Maine wedge pattern double bit cruiser. You'll find all the features found in double bit cruisers made in the early 1900's by iconic Maine makers such as Emerson & Stevens, King Axe & Tool, and Spiller.
The iconic Maine wedge double bit pattern is distinguished by a distinct peak in the center of the axe and a unique diamond shaped eye.
The Forester's Friend weighs in at around 2.5 lbs. and is hung on a straight grained, hand-picked, Grade A 28" Amish-turned hickory handle.
Adding to the vintage feel of the Forester's Friend is the brass pin at the 2' mark on handle. These pins were used to measure (by flipping the axe handle over) 4' cords of wood (4' x 4' x 8') and mark logs while at work in the woods.
Protecting your axe is a heavy duty handmade leather sheath that the axe easily slips into. Made by our friends at Holler Leatherworks in Minot, ME.
Due to the time-consuming nature of making this axe, the first edition of the Forester's Friend will be limited to 148 axes. (148 years ago West Waterville, ME was renamed Oakland and was on its way to becoming the axe making capital of the U.S.) A star will be stamped on the head of each axe to identify them as a first edition Forester's Friend Maine Wedge Double Bit Cruiser.
The axes will be individually forged in mid 2022 by our head blacksmith Gabriel McNeill. Shipping will begin in June with 5-10 shipped per month in the sequence the orders were placed.
